Sparger Nozzles belong to the category of “open tank heaters” that utilize high-velocity steam flowing through a nozzle to entrain suction liquids. Within the diffuser, the condensing steam and heated liquid mix thoroughly, thanks to the agitation occurring in this section. This process results in a quiet operation, as the diffuser breaks up the steam bubbles while enhancing circulation through high discharge velocity. It is recommended to use a steam Sparger nozzle when any of the following conditions are met.
Sparger Nozzles are designed for submersion in the liquid to be heated. Use them when starting heating from a shallow level is desired.
Sparger Nozzles also excel when uniform agitation and heating over a large, shallow tank area is required in your industrial process.
For steam pressure below 20 psi the 3/8” size is preferable. Determination as to which size nozzle to be used depends on the number of units required to give even distribution over the tank.
For installations where solids are encountered, sizes 1-1/2”, 2”, and 3” sizes are recommended. These units are used instead of drilled holes in sparger pipe, requiring fewer pipe openings and can improve circulation; providing uniform heating.

These Sparger Nozzles provide thorough tank mixing of steam and liquid and breaks up steam bubbles to provide quiet operation. The temperature of the liquid can be thermostatically controlled if the steam pressure is not throttled below quiet operating levels. If the anticipated load variation will not reduce the pressure drop across the nozzle, a throttle type controller may be used. If conditions require shutting off the steam, a snap-acting on-and-off control should be applied.
